I am a freelance writer. I write for adults and children,
both fiction
and non-fiction stories and articles. I am of Native American decent
and hope to change the lives of people, young and old, from my writings
and experiences. I was shown the old ways when I was younger and now
live my life accordingly. In my writings I hope to show
people another way to live
their lives.
I believe story telling is a very important part of life that has
almost been completely lost. In many old cultures storytelling was the
only way to pass on traditions, spiritual teachings and legends from
one generation to the next.
Everyone has a story to tell, and I believe we all should be heard at
least once in our life.
My Story
I
was born and raised in West Texas. I was the youngest of three, I have
two older brothers. Growing up my brothers where really close and
didn't include me in their group, so therefore I was left all to
myself. In fact they were mostly mean and hateful to me. I didn't bond
with them and never got very close to them.
I was very shy
and
introverted as a little girl and as I grew into a young teenager it
didn't get any better. I didn't have many friends and pretty much kept
to myself. I had a lot of fear of people. Things didn't scare me as
much
as just people. I wasn't close to my mother, I was mostly afraid of
her. She made me feel as if I was guilty of
something all the time. I was closer to my father than to anyone in my
family, although even that relationship was reserved.
When I entered
middle school I
made a couple of friends, one in particular I stayed close with for
many years. At the age of fifteen I got interested in my
friends
older brother, he was sixteen. My parents gave in and let me start
dating him because they knew the family. To make a long story short we
dated about a year and then I became pregnant. We got married, but not
without a lot of intense moments. Still married with a toddler and
another one on the way I graduated from High School on time with my
class. My husband became very controlling and abusive as the years
moved on and he didn't want to help with making a living or raising
the kids. After a few more years our marriage ended in a very nasty
divorce.
At the age of
nineteen I
graduated from Cosmetology School, I worked many years as a hair
dresser until I decided to change careers. I was close to thirty when I
graduated from Business College. I worked for a few years as a
bookkeeper and after that my father asked my to come back home and help
him with the family business. I didn't want to do that, I couldn't
stand the town I grew up in and didn't want to move back there. My
mother told me my father was sick and not doing well so I moved back to
help him. He passed away after about eight months of battling throat
cancer. He made me promise not to put him in the hospital so I took
care of him at home. My oldest brother had always worked the family
business with my father and had never really left the nest so to speak.
He somewhat resented me coming back but didn't want to run the business
part of the business so he had no choice in the matter. He and I ran
the business for a number of years and since I didn't get along with my
brother I decided to leave.
When I was thirty
six I met my
third present and last husband. We have been together for almost ten
years now. The old saying "three is a charm" is SO right!
When I met my
husband, he was living and traveling full time in his motor home. We
took a three week trip together and traveled all over West and Central
Texas.
After that
trip I decided
to get my own 5th wheel trailer and we then traveled New Mexico, Utah,
Colorado, and Arizona. We both decided after that trip that we would
rather combine our rigs into one and so I sold my trailer and moved
into the Motor home. Our next adventure took us to Missouri and
Arkansas. While in Missouri, we met an older couple that told us they
did contract work for the Army Corp of Engineers as campground
managers. My husband and I looked into doing it ourselves and for a few
years we did that together.
After our
second year doing
the campgrounds we decided to travel to California and visit my
husbands mother. We stayed a few weeks and made our way back
to Texas.
On the way we stop in Reno Nevada and wound up staying there for almost
four months. We really loved that town. Moving on we went to Las Vegas
staying a couple of months and finely making our way to Albuquerque New
Mexico, were we stayed there almost nine months.
During our
travels we had
always talked about moving to Tennessee and buying a small farm when
the time came to get off the road. My husbands health was going bad and
it was getting harder and harder to maintain the RV lifestyle. Most of
the money we had for savings were invested in high risk yields and as
luck would have it shortly after getting to Tennessee we lost all of
our investments and suffered complete financial ruin. The economy here
is poor, most of the work here is factory work and I have gone back to
work making socks for us to survive on. I am thankful for my job and
still having my husband.
As far as my hobbies
and
interests go I have spent many years in Martial Arts. I love reading
and anything to do with being outdoors and animals. I also
make
jewelry, mostly Native American, bead work, cross stitch, some knitting
(mostly blankets), and leather work. I love house plants,
gardening,
music, and learning new things. I plunk at a guitar, and my greatest
loves
are my husband, our Rat Terrier, and our two African Grey Parrots.
